Serve the Community

Place matters. Because Jesus took on flesh and blood, lived in a neighborhood and identified with a people, we also root ourselves in neighborhoods and identify with people. Our place is Washington, DC. While many come to this city to consume it and to use it, we want to be among those who love it.

As a community of faith, we are propelled into a beautiful, yet broken world as those called to serve and to share, to learn and to teach, to preach, and to pray.

For Christ City Church, that gets expressed practically as we seek justice, show compassion to those experiencing poverty, embody hospitality, care for our neighbors and neighborhoods, and invite others to follow the simple ways of Jesus. Our feeble efforts at serving our world are, above all, rooted and grounded in love.

On any given day you’ll find members of Christ City Church engaged in urban education, refugee resettlement, mentoring, community development, feeding the hungry, serving on nonprofit boards, coaching, meeting new neighbors, leading the local PTA meeting, raising money for children orphaned by violence, advocating for affordable housing, protesting racial violence and demanding equity, and praying for God’s kingdom to come. All of this and more in an attempt to live out the great commandments and great commission of Jesus.
