How to Give
Start with prayer. Spend time in worship. Set aside moments just to be present with God. Seek ways to learn how to follow in the footsteps of Jesus, both on your own and in community with others. The Next Five is not simply about a transactional request. It is intended to be part of how we grow as disciples, in the likeness of Christ.
Then, consider:
What about Christ City Church are you grateful for? How has the Christ City community been significant to you?
What are you excited about for Christ City Church? What do you hope for?
Write down your answers. In light of these, think about and discuss with loved ones how you might want to participate in the future—and the present—of our church.
Everyone has a unique situation and ability to give. Thus, what it means to be a responsible and faithful steward will differ for each of us.
In our discernment, we may find guidance in the words of Jesus that “Much will be demanded from everyone who has been given much, and from the one who has been entrusted with much, even more will be asked” (Luke 12:48b).
And we may draw inspiration from the obedient witness of the early church, who ensured through their generosity and commitment to one another that there were “no needy persons among them” (Acts 4:32-35).
Here is a chart to help you map out your opportunities for giving to The Next Five:
Instead of simply thinking of a dollar amount, you might ask:
Does this gift feel like faithful stewardship of what God has blessed me with?
Have I spent time in prayer, listening to what God might have me do?
Have I talked with wise, trusted loved ones—family and friends—about what generosity would look like in my current season?
How does this shape me in discipleship, in becoming more like Jesus in my love of God and my love of neighbor?
Can I give this gift with joy, trusting that God will provide?
