Our sense of what God would have us do far outpaces our capacity to do it.

In summer 2022, we celebrated the first five years of Christ City Church.

With great joy, we gave thanks to God for allowing us to:

  • engage in a two-year discernment process, leading to a posture of full inclusion regarding human sexuality and gender identity, as we sought to cultivate a more welcoming community for our queer siblings;

  • undergo a significant leadership transition that saw Pastor Matthew and Pastor Justin swap roles;

  • press deeper into inclusion, inviting an external audit of our church’s practices and processes, especially from the perspective of race and culture;

  • invest $120,000 from savings to fund a two-year Worship Arts Fellowship, allowing us to hire our first Worship Arts Director, Joslyn Henderson;

  • give away almost $400,000 to local and global partners and projects, to organizations committed to the common good through our Advent Offerings, and to those in need through our Benevolence Fund.

In other ways too, we have sought to display the goodness of God’s kingdom.

Through weekly worship gatherings and small groups, affinity group gatherings and seminars on the spiritual history of DC, disability theology, American Sign Language, and wrestling with hard questions about God and the Bible.

By serving our neighbors together, in the community in and around Miner Elementary School, where we have worshiped and volunteered for years, and beyond into our workplaces and the neighborhoods where we all live.

Through partnering in mission with local and global organizations such as World Relief, Paz y Esperanza in Latin America, and Little Lights and the Washington Interfaith Network here in DC.

God has been so faithful in working in us and through us.

Yet we long for more.

More courageous conversations. More reconciliation facilitated. More justice sought, fought for, and lived out.

More people welcomed into the family of God and the work of God’s kingdom.

There is so much to look forward to as well, so much to be hopeful for.

And you have an opportunity to be part of the story of Christ City Church.

We set ourselves a target to raise

$450,000

over the next three years

to set us up for the next five and beyond.

With thanksgiving to God for the first five years, we invite you to be a part of what God is doing at Christ City Church over The Next Five.

Will you give to invest in the mission and vision of Christ City — to see the flourishing of God’s kingdom on display in every life and every sphere of life, in DC and beyond; and to love God, love others, and make disciples?
