Day 25: Wednesday 3/18
READ: James 5:16-18
For this reason, confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of the righteous person is powerful in what it can achieve. Elijah was a person just like us. When he earnestly prayed that it wouldn’t rain, no rain fell for three and a half years. He prayed again, God sent rain, and the earth produced its fruit.
REFLECT
Confession isn't just vertical (to God); it's horizontal (to each other). We need each other's prayers. We need to name our sin—including our complicity, our silence, our comfort purchased by others' suffering—aloud to someone who will intercede for us. This requires trust, humility, and community safe enough for truth. James says this kind of prayer—honest, mutual, persistent—is powerful and effective. Elijah was human like us. His prayers changed reality. So can ours.
RESPOND
Confess one thing this week to a trusted friend—not something generic, but something specific. Ask them to pray and to hold you accountable.
PRAY
God who transforms, give us courage to confess and communities safe enough for honesty. Hear our prayers and change us. Amen.
