Palm Sunday (3/29)
READ: James 1:12 (revisit)
Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.
REFLECT
We enter Holy Week with James's promise: those who persevere will receive the crown of life. Jesus enters Jerusalem knowing what's coming — betrayal, abandonment, torture, death and execution at the hands of the state. And he goes anyway, because enduring faith leads through suffering to resurrection. The crown of life isn't escape from hardship. It's the promise for those who endure it with faith. Today we wave palms and shout hosanna, knowing Friday is coming. But so is Sunday.
RESPOND
As you enter Holy Week, ask God: what trial are you calling me to persevere through right now?
PRAY
Jesus who showed us a different kingdom, give us faith to follow you through the valley of the shadow, trusting resurrection awaits. Amen.
