Day 28: Saturday 3/21

READ: James 1:22-25 (revisit)

You must be doers of the word and not only hearers who mislead themselves. Those who hear but don’t do the word are like those who look at their faces in a mirror. They look at themselves, walk away, and immediately forget what they were like. But there are those who study the perfect law, the law of freedom, and continue to do it. They don’t listen and then forget, but they put it into practice in their lives. They will be blessed in whatever they do.

REFLECT

We return again to James's central call: do the word, don't just hear it. The mirror shows us who we are, but we forget as soon as we walk away. We hear God's call to love the poor, resist injustice, live differently — and we go back to business as usual. James calls this self-deception. Real transformation happens when we look intently into God's word and let it actually change how we live.

RESPOND

What's one invitation from God you've been hearing but not doing because it would cost you something? What would it look like to say yes today?

PRAY

Lord, keep us from self-deception. Help us do what we hear, not just feel moved by it. Amen.
