Day 12: Tuesday 3/3

READ: James 3:1-2

My brothers and sisters, not many of you should become teachers, because we know that we teachers will be judged more strictly. We all make mistakes often, but those who don’t make mistakes with their words have reached full maturity. Like a bridled horse, they can control themselves entirely.

REFLECT

James shifts to the tongue — and starts with a warning to those who speak publicly. Words shape communities. Those who teach, preach, lead — bear extra responsibility because our words can either reinforce empire's categories or open up God's new creation. We all stumble in our speech but how we speak reveals whether we've really been transformed or are just performing.

RESPOND

Pay attention to your words today — not just what you say, but what you don't say. Notice the patterns.

PRAY

Lord, we stumble in our speech. Give us wisdom and humility as we speak. Amen.
