2025 Annual Report
July 1, 2024—June 30, 2025
Welcome
This past year at Christ City Church has been marked by rhythms of worshipping, belonging, and serving together as we have continued to live into our calling to Love God, Love Others, and Make Disciples.
We opened the year discerning what it means to dwell with God and one another, grounded in our Vision — to see the flourishing of God’s kingdom on display in every life and every sphere of life, in DC and beyond — and guided by our Core Practices of Worship, Community, and Mission. We made space for the Spirit to move: in gatherings large and small, in laughter and lament, and in service to our city.
This report is a snapshot of that life together — the stories, the numbers, the transitions, and most importantly, the God whose grace carries us forward.
Worship
By the Numbers
Acts of the Spirit
We spent a good part of the year in the book of Acts. Acts of the Spirit (Parts 1 & 2) took us through Acts 1–8, tracing the Spirit’s movement in the early church and asking how it shows up today. The series explored courage, generosity, hospitality, and renewal, inviting the church to notice patterns of Spirit-led life and respond together.
Worship at Christ City Church is our shared response to God’s love revealed in Christ and sustained by the Spirit. This year, our gatherings focused on Scripture, place, and formation, inviting us to notice where God is moving and how we are being sent.
What does the Spirit look like now—and where might the Spirit be leading us?
Other series - including Pilgrim Songs, God With Us, Dwell, and Kairos - continued this focus on formation, presence, and attentiveness to God’s work in ordinary and public life.

KAIROS: Now Is the Time
This year also marked the rollout of KAIROS, a clarified framework for Christ City’s long-held values. While the values themselves weren’t new, their structure and integration across worship, community, and mission were made explicit.
KAIROS stands for:
Kingdom-Rooted | All Are Welcomed | Interdependent | Righteousness & Justice | Ongoing Transformation | Spirit-Led
KAIROS guided preaching, liturgy, and teaching, helping us move beyond surface-level inclusion toward deeper formation and faithful public witness.

Discipleship & Small Groups
Small groups and workshops offered spaces to wrestle with faith, ethics, and everyday life. Our community explored topics such as living fully in faith, understanding Indigenous perspectives, building healthy personal and relational practices, navigating civic and cultural anxiety, and engaging in ongoing conversations about justice, belonging, and spiritual formation. These gatherings invited our community to reflect, learn, and notice how God is working in their lives and communities.

Spaces for Connection and Fun
We continued to grow our spaces for belonging, connection, and fun. Regular gatherings included Men’s Breakfast, Moms’ Group, Black Women’s Small Group, Single Women’s Gathering, and BIPOC community spaces. Beyond structured groups, shared meals, neighborhood outings, and community events — like Nationals games, Community Lunches, Christ City Coffees, and our first Field Day — brought the church together for community and play.
Mission
Mission at Christ City Church is how we embody God’s kingdom through action, presence, and care. This year, we focused on showing up for our neighbors, deepening partnerships, and offering spaces for both personal and public witness.
Partnerships & Local Engagement
Our mission work is grounded in collaboration and long-term presence. We continued to partner with Miner Elementary, their PTO, and the Washington Interfaith Network, cultivating relationships that strengthen our community and support those on the margins. Seasonal initiatives, including the Advent Offering, connected generosity with tangible impact, equipping the church to respond to need with care and purpose.
Events & Service
Christ City stepped into the city through events and service opportunities. Highlights included the Rosedale Thanksgiving Dinner, participation in H Street Festival, and Little Lights Serve Day.
Counseling & Support
Through Garden City Center and counseling consultation with Trina, we helped 13 individuals navigate access to therapists and counseling. This ministry reflects our commitment to holistic care — attending to spiritual, emotional, and practical needs in our community.
Giving & Missional Support
The congregation’s generosity made significant impact this year. Nearly $60,000 was raised through the Advent Offering, funding efforts through the Angel Scroggins Memorial Fund, CCC Missional Grants, Tent of Nations, and the Clergy Community Coalition who responded directly to the needs of the California wildfires.
Leadership & Staff Transitions
This year included intentional rhythms of leadership and moments of renewal. Justin took a summer sabbatical, modeling the importance of rest and reflection in sustaining ministry.
We welcomed multiple new staff members who joined ministry teams, bringing energy, gifts, and vision to our shared life. At the same time, we said farewell with gratitude to Nikki Wiggins, honoring years of faithful service, care, and leadership that shaped the life of families, small groups, and the broader church community. We are also grateful for our ministry intern, Kiry Poiema, whose contributions supported our programs and community life throughout the year.
Through transitions and sabbatical rhythms, the work of ministry continued and expanded, reminding us that faithful leadership is grounded in both action and the care of the Spirit.
Financial Overview
This year, Christ City Church stewarded resources to support worship, community, and mission. Generous giving and careful planning allowed us to sustain ministries, care for families and neighbors, and invest in long-term partnerships. While numbers tell part of the story, they reflect the faithfulness and generosity of a community committed to following God’s call.
Thank you for being part of another year at Christ City Church.
We look forward to continuing together in loving God, loving others, and making disciples.
