Christ City Church began life in 2013 as the East Side parish of The District Church, planted off of the H Street Corridor in Washington, DC. A group of District Churchers, inspired to live out the vision of being an incarnational gospel presence in their own neighborhoods, started meeting to pray and worship together. In summer 2013, we started weekly Sunday gatherings at Miner Elementary School and have been there ever since, getting more connected with our neighborhood and with local organizations.
In spring 2017, the decision was made that the East Side parish should become an independent church, and in the summer, we took on a new name — Christ City Church — and commissioned new elders to lead us, even as we committed to continue living out our calling to Christ, to our great city, and to the Church, being — and becoming ever more — a multiethnic, multigenerational, diverse and reconciling church in the heart of Washington, DC.
Christ City Church is affiliated and connected with the Christian Community Development Association (CCDA), the V3 Church Planting Network and the Baptist General Association of Virginia, and Missio Alliance.
